By Michael D. Barber, Georgia Lawyer specializing in DUI, Drug Charges & Criminal Defense
The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety published information regarding the out of town travel over the holidays. The officers working on DUI arrests over the holidays will focus on safety for everyone over this holiday season. More specifically the Alpharetta DUI officers will work in conjunctions focusing their efforts on safe driving and making sure that everyone is driving in a safe manner over the seasons.
Remember that all police use some of the various available charges to stop a vehicle including Texting while Driving (or Distracted Driving), Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane and others violations that may end up charging the driver with a DUI as well. The scenario is usually you are driving see blue lights and the officer details out the reason for stopping you, or pulling you over, is that he “saw you with your phone your hands” OR “he saw the light from your phone reflecting in the car (at night)” or “You exceeded the posted speed limit” or you failed to drive within your lane. These charges can lead toa DUI if the officer is further under the impression that you are at the point where you are a less safe driver. At that oint you may find yourself in unfamiliar territory trying to figure out what you next step may be in the DUI process.
It doesn’t matter where you find yourself in Georgia almost all of the police force use this common charge to begin a DUI investigation including: Johns Creek Police, Alpharetta Police, Milton Police, DeKalb County Police, City of Decatur Police, Atlanta, Police Gwinnett County Police and the list goes on. This “tool” allows the police to stop a vehicle for any “legal” reason and their investigation can lead to to a DUI if they suspect the driver has been drinking or using drugs.
As a result of the Governor’s office of Highway Safety teaming up with various organizations, including the HEAT and TEAM division of local counties, the cops are cracking down on impaired driving.
