GSP is cracking down this Holiday Season

As we are ending 2023 and the holiday season, there is one more major holiday left where police departments in the State of Georgia will be doubling their efforts looking for impaired driving or DUI’s. In fact you may find yourself looking at blue lights in your mirror as you are either driving to your next destination or trying to get home. Officers and Troopers use various tools to stop vehicles including: speeding, tag violations, light violations and road blocks, to name a few, to look for individuals who are driving under the influence.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, there will be an increased lookout for impaired driving this holiday season. Colonel Hutchins with GSP said “there is no excuse for driving impaired, you will be arrested.”

The reason that GDP wants to crack down on impaired driving is because Georgia State Patrol has found that on certain holidays, especially New Years Eve, they see a increase in driving under the influence and then the arrests for DUI go up significantly. New Years Eve is synonymous with alcohol, vibrant parties and pure excitement celebrating the a restart to your usual pace and a new years beginning.

With police being aggressive, or more aggressive, for DUI arrests, it means that more people are finding themselves the subject of a unwanted late night rendezvous. As a result, the Governor’s office of Highway Safety often teams up with other police organizations, including the HEAT and TEAM division of local counties. This means that those teams are working in conjunction with thunder hawks and nighthawks with the Georgia State Patrol DUI Task force. These efforts by the police and Georgia State Patrol mean that you MUST be cautious in your decisions if you are planning on drinking anything and driving.

If you have been accused by the police of driving under the influence then you need help from a trained DUI attorney.
